The 5 Days for the Homeless campaign will run from Sunday, March 8th - Friday, March 13th this year. 5 students from the Edwards School of Business will give up the comfort of their homes to sleep outside for 5 nights to raise awareness of homelessness in the Saskatoon community. They will rely on donations from strangers for food and hygiene items over those 5 days. The campaign will raise monetary, non-perishable food items, and clothing donations for The Saskatoon Downtown Youth Center Inc. (EGADZ).

5 Days for the Homeless started at the University of Alberta and now encompasses 25 universities across the country (all during this same week!), having raised over $1.2 million and thousands of non-monetary donations since its inception. Here at the University of Saskatchewan, the campaign goal for this year is $15,000 toward the important and tireless work of The Saskatoon Downtown Youth Centre Inc. (EGADZ). For anyone who has never visited EGADZ, it is an incredible eye-opener to see the lives and hear the stories of Saskatoon’s youth at risk, along with the vital role that EGADZ plays in supporting these individuals and helping them create a brighter and more promising future for themselves.

For more information on EGADZ and the 5 Days for the Homeless campaign, please visit:

For the remainder of this week, students in bright-orange coloured shirts will be collecting donations around campus. In addition, a donation bin has been set up in the main entrance of the college for non-monetary donations (clothing, canned/non-perishable food, toiletries). There is also the option to donate online to this worthwhile campaign (please be sure to pick either a specific student or ‘University of Saskatchewan – EGADZ’ to direct your contribution directly to the U of S campaign and $15,000 goal):

Thanks again for your help and support in bringing attention and hope to an often invisible and yet pervasive social issue, and giving a voice to those who can’t be easily heard.
